Self portraiture has given me the ability to sustain my art practice through motherhood. The self portraits that i’ve made over the last several years have been made in many different mediums, but I always found myself wanting to use the ‘outtakes’. Where the focus was soft, or something else fell flat, and transform them with another medium I’ve always been drawn to. Polaroids. Polaroids have been a big part of my practice and play with self portraiture. I’ve transformed these from scanned negatives and digital images into polaroids, separating the emulsion layer and transferred them onto paper. Creating a more intimate, delicate and permanent version of their original state. Memorializing these small and tender moments and trials in motherhood.
